  8. People with cancer now have a choice. They can choose
  9. to be Patients Active, a part of the team fighting for their
  10. recovery, or they can choose to be Patients Passive,
  11. handing over responsibility for their recovery to their
  12. health care team.
  13.     Thirty or 40 years ago, most cancer patients didn't
  14. know they had any options. They were Patients
  15. Passive and their role was well defined. It included
  16. following their physician's instructions, accepting his
  17. or her ministrations and, if the patient was so inclined,
  18. praying for divine intervention. That was the only role
  19. they thought they could play.
